Our first visit. We're from north Kerala and we rarely come across coastal dishes that can compete with what we get in Kozhikode and beyond. So we were delighted when we were served some of the best coastal dishes we've had, at Pankayam. Subtle balance of spices. No frills presentation. But hey, who needs looks when the food is fresh and flavoursome? Excellent service from a young lady named Ansu....casual ambiance. We'll be back. Title: Serious Hygiene & Safety Issues Despite Good Taste I was shocked to find plastic inside the ice cream and a sauce bottle cap in the paneer curry. The waiter apologized and replaced the dish, but such mistakes point to extreme carelessness in the kitchen. If a child had eaten it by mistake, it could have been a serious health hazard. The food was tasty, but hygiene and safety must come first. Urgent attention is needed to prevent such dangerous lapses. We recently visited Pankayam with high expectations, especially to try their much-talked-about Kerala Sadya. Unfortunately, the experience did not quite live up to the hype. While the idea of enjoying a traditional sadya meal sounded exciting, the flavors fell short. The dishes lacked the punch and authenticity we were hoping for, and overall, the food felt overpriced for the quality offered. The ambiance also left much to be desired. The atmosphere didn’t feel very welcoming or comfortable, and the poor parking facilities only added to the initial frustration. It was difficult to find a proper space, which is something to consider if you’re planning to visit during peak hours. On the positive side, the staff were polite and the service was courteous. However, one major drawback was the long waiting time for food. Items ordered after we were seated either took too long to arrive or, in some cases, were missed entirely. It’s best to place all your orders right when you’re seated to avoid delays or confusion. We also tried to order fish fry, but the type of fish served did not suit our taste so we dropped that. While Pankayam does have a reputation and a decent service team, our personal experience didn’t justify the hype. With better attention to food quality, faster service, and improvements in ambiance and parking, it has the potential — but as of now, it misses the mark.
