I had a very disappointing experience at this Starbucks. A friend and I were quietly sitting at a table after purchasing drinks, casually chatting and playing a simple game of cards. There were only two of us. We were not loud, not gambling, not occupying extra tables, and not bothering anyone in any way. Despite this, a barista came over and told us that “playing cards is not allowed,” with no explanation and no signage indicating such a rule. We felt singled out and uncomfortable, so we left. What makes this especially frustrating is the blatant inconsistency. I have regularly seen people sit for hours with laptops, as well as groups being loud, shouting, and clearly disturbing others, yet that behavior seems to be tolerated. Meanwhile, two quiet customers engaging in a harmless activity were asked to stop. If this is a store-specific policy, it should be clearly posted and enforced consistently. If it is not, then arbitrarily policing respectful customers makes this location feel unwelcoming and poorly managed. Been visiting this location for the last 10 years but I won’t be returning again.
