I’ve been a loyal customer of The Royal Bakery for over a decade, and their black plum cake remains iconic. I’ve often travelled 45+ km with multiple changes, especially during Christmas, just to buy it — that says a lot about the product quality and legacy. However, the experience yesterday was disappointing for long-time patrons. While cash-only payments may have been understandable in the 1990s or early 2000s, it feels completely outdated now. In an era where even street vendors accept UPI, insisting only on cash causes genuine inconvenience. On my recent visit, I returned empty-handed simply because I carried no cash, assuming digital payments would be accepted. For a bakery with such a strong brand, loyal following, and high festive footfall, this resistance to digital payments reflects poorly on customer sensitivity and modern business practices. Constructive suggestion to the owners:. Please adopt basic digital payment options. It will improve customer experience, reduce friction during peak seasons like Christmas and Easter, and help preserve the goodwill built over decades. Message to fellow patrons:. As admirers of this legacy bakery, encouraging them to modernize — including accepting digital payments — is the only way to ensure they remain relevant and customer-friendly in today’s world. Great products deserve equally progressive service.
