The first name that comes to mind when you think of a rice restaurant in the College Street area is Mahal Restaurant. An ideal place for delicious and homely Bengali food. We had rice, Musur Dal, Dry potato Fry, paneer potato sabzi. It was served on a Fresh banana leaf with onion and lemon slices. This is a pice restaurant. No thali is served here, each dish has a different price. History says that where Mahal Restaurant is today, there was once the famous 'Presidency Boarding House'. Once, the famous writer Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay used to stay in this boarding house. While staying here, he started writing stories about the character 'Byomkesh Bakshi'. Also, poet Jibanananda Das lived here for a long time. This shop is open from 10 am to 4 pm, then after some break it is open again from 7 pm to 10 pm. The address of Mahal Restaurant is - 6/3 Ramanath Majumder Street, Kolkata 700 009. It is located on the road just behind the University Institute Hall. Meanwhile, if you come from Mahatma Gandhi Road, the mahal is right opposite Chittaranjan College.
