Pork Shapaley - Rs.110/- Just Momoz, Madanriting, Shillong Chinese & Tibetan $$ 17.07.24 After that entire feast at @ebenezer_ethnic_food_official there was still something missing. Meva wanted to have Shapaley. I did call up @houseofmomo_shillong but they were not available today. So we decided to walk a few turnings ahead to @justmomoz_madanrting_1 to see if they still had them. We came up to the place & it looked very cozy from the outside. We stepped in & the place was jam packed. Seems like it's still very popular. My 1st time trying Shapaley was in this very restaurant back in 2019 with Meva. It was also a 1st for her. This time we wanted to introduce this dish to @__.beelis_ even though she was already full. A Shapaley is a Nepalese meat filled deep fried pastry. We took a table & this time decided on a plate of Pork Shapaley instead of Chicken. The order came after 10mins. It had 2 medium sized Shapaleys that came with 3 dips, pudina, peanut & chilli sauce. The 1st thing I noticed is that the Shapaleys were unsymmetrical to one another. One had a nice pretty shape, the other looked a little irregular in shape. We broke the piece in half & noticed the pork pieces inside which were cut into 1inch cubes. I was expecting more like a minced meat filling. This changed the texture of the dish. It was filled with onions but as you can see, the filling wasn't filling the entire pastry. Anyway I took a bite & the pastry had a decent crunch. However it was also a little greasy yet tasty. Still tasted decent but wasn't as good as I remembered it or as good as the other Shapaleys in town. Still a decent snack to recommend if you are in the area. The service was top-notch as well. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, making recommendations based on my preferences. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious meal in a great atmosphere. From the food to the service, everything exceeded my expectations. It's a small cozy yellow restaurant with a somewhat misleading name as they have far more to offer than "Just Momoz"! The owner is an amiable middle-aged man who sits at the counter and takes orders. Most often, they are so packed that he has to subtlety dispel/kindly request oncoming customers to be patient and wait for their turn by saying "will take some time" with a twinkle in his eye. The momos are extremely flavourful, although personally, I think they can be a tad bit bigger for the price at which they come. The drinks (I've tried their Lemon Soda and Vanilla Milkshake) are just alright and although I never order cold drinks at a restaurant, couldn't help but notice that they (standard 1 L bottles) are sold at MRP. All in all, would recommend visiting and trying the many food options they have - which are not in any way limited to "Just Momoz" ;) Post-Script Note: Although the name suggests that they serve both Tibetan and Chinese Foods, options for Tibetan cuisine are limited only to Shepta, Shapaley, Thukpa, and Yangmey Noodles.
