If it was possible to give ten stars, I would! The ambiance, service and food is amazing. I've eaten at restaurants all over the world and recently in south India...this was some of the best food I ever had. They were prompt to understand gluten intolerance and accommodated just fine (which seems a bit rare in India). The live music was melodic, meditative and simply beautiful. I'll definitely be back if I find myself visiting Chennai! Recently came here after they moved to the new location on TTK road. I’ve been here a long time ago as a kid, so I remembered the name. Such an enjoyable experience. With live music, I had some really delicious and well made South Indian food. Last time I had a Kerala meal, today something similar but a la carte. The food is fresh, light, flavor fully perfect. Their jackfruit (and mango?) ice cream is magical. Their appams were so light and happiness inducing. The live music guys also play some old Tamil classics (instrumental) which totally adds to the vibe. Today I had someone called Palani really take care and suggest dishes for me. Really nice. I am feeling content. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Dinner Price per person: ₹2,000+

It was an extremely disappointing experience. We had made a prior reservation based on the hype surrounding the restaurant and were confirmed a table for the second sitting. Despite arriving on time, we were kept waiting. After around 20 minutes, we were informed that there would be an additional delay of 30 minutes. As the waiting crowd began to raise concerns, we were eventually seated—not at Dakshin as reserved, but on the second floor at Westminster. The service was painfully slow—it took nearly an hour just to bring out a vegetarian thali. The food itself was underwhelming, with portion sizes falling short of what was promised, even after prior confirmation. Each dish arrived with a frustrating delay, and the only explanation given was that it was a second sitting and they were struggling to manage the crowd. They could have easily avoided the situation by not accepting our reservation, but instead, they chose to proceed and ended up giving us a thoroughly disappointing experience. If you value your time and expect decent service, you may consider avoiding this restaurant. Safe to say, I won’t be stepping in here again.
