Right, let’s start with the obvious: bringing Italian coffee to India is about as pretentious as serving sushi at a fish market in Tokyo and claiming it’s “imported. And here in Kochi’s Lulu Mall, Costa Coffee is trying desperately to sell the myth with all the flair of a corporate PowerPoint. Now, about the coffee, my god. Acidic enough to strip paint off a Vespa. One sip and I thought I’d bitten into a lemon wrapped in disappointment. I’ve had smoother espressos made in gas stations at 3 a.m. Then came the carrot cake. If that thing ever had a carrot in it, it died of old age. Dry, sad, and stale. I swear it was baked in Italy a month ago, then flew economy class to India with a layover in Dubai. The icing tasted like regret. And the atmosphere? Imagine a nursing home after midnight. quiet, lifeless, and slightly depressing. Even the coffee machine looked like it had given up on life. Staff were polite but seemed to have accepted their fate long ago. Costa, if you’re going to bring “Italian coffee culture” to India, at least bring a pulse with it. Two stars one for the air conditioning, and one for reminding me how not to do coffee.
