Very disappointed after my last visit to city of Joy during Pujo, 21. We have been going here for years, and dinner at CoJ has been an essential part of Durga Puja celebrations, so we always go with the expectation of waiting for 40 minutes to an hour. This year however, I was so surprised to see that they have closed most of their dine-in space and in the tiny area adjacent to the kitchen, they have tried to fit 3 (4 seater) and 2 (2 seater) tables. We were told the closure is due to COVID and poor impact on restaurants, but it was scarier to have dinner in a closed, cramped space where 15 people were literally climbing over each other to get in or out. Obviously the wait time was nearly 1.5 hours, and even after all that waiting I was even more disappointed to see a fixed thali menu instead of their usual puja (limited from their regular) menu. I had been so excited to take my family to City of Joy and experience the rich Bengali cuisine, but that was not possible at all. that being said, the food was very well cooked, but the thali option had very small portions, which did not justify the cost of the thali or the time we spent waiting for a seat. If you're looking for a good Bengali meal, you should go for a delivery or takeaway option and please don't travel from far away, it's not worth it anymore.
