Cafe Universal is well presented and in a convenient location, just a short walk from other bars and places to eat, which initially makes it appealing. However, after spending time there, it didn’t quite live up to expectations. Prices were noticeably higher compared to similar venues in Goa that we’d visited previously, and the value for money just wasn’t there. My partner had been here around 20 years ago and remembered it as a lively backpacker bar with plenty of atmosphere and character. Sadly, that vibe seems to have been lost. Now it feels more like an expensive local bar, lacking the energy and buzz it once had. While everything looked polished and tidy, it felt like style over substance, with nothing that really stood out or made us want to stay longer. Overall, it was an okay experience but not a memorable one, and we wouldn’t choose to return when there are better, more atmospheric options nearby. Follow @daddyslittlelunchbox.
