Zao has been one of my preferred spots for decent Chinese and Pan-Asian cuisine, known for its consistent flavours and ambiance. However, my recent experience left me extremely disappointed and concerned about the current standards of service. We were mistakenly served non-vegetarian dim sums, which were confidently presented as vegetarian by the staff. This is not a minor oversight, especially for guests who are strict vegetarians — it’s a serious breach of trust and food ethics. While the manager did offer a verbal apology once the issue was brought to their attention, there was no real attempt to take ownership or make amends — no proactive gesture to rectify the experience or assure us that such lapses won’t be repeated. It’s unfortunate to see such a trusted restaurant compromise on staff training and guest sensitivity. I hope the management reflects on this and restores the level of responsibility and hospitality Zao was once known for. Food: 3 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3
