Among other Sri Lankan cuisune places to visit, this restaurant can be one of the best. The Kandyan boasts perfectly cooked spicy rolls, spicy squid and fish sticks. Good lemonade, juice or white coffee are among the tastiest drinks to degust.
At this place, you can order a takeaway. The gracious waitstaff works hard, stays positive and makes this place wonderful. The fine service is something these restaurateurs care about. Visited as I was intrigued by Sri Lankan cuisine for a while. Am surprised that there aren't that many Sri Lankan restaurants in Chennai in spite of our geographical proximity. The service was good. The servers were courteous and the food appeared fast. I had the white idiyappam, prawn sodhi and pol sambhol with maasi. Liked the umami in the sambhol by the adding of the maasi. The prawns in the sodhi were fresh though the gravy was watery. The servers were okay to take back the sodhi and try and thicken the gravy. The food is similar to Keralan cuisine. Really loved the murals and prints on the walls. Very atmospheric and possibly representative of Sri Lanka. Why cook when you can get your comfort food delivered at your doorstep from Y Cook in Besant Nagar? Formerly known as Y Cook and presently as The Kandyan, this restaurant specialises in home style Sri Lankan food, though there are South and North Indian options on the menu as well. We decided to go Sri Lankan and ordered the Idiyappam made with red rice, Pol Roti, Pol Sambol and Seeni Sambol (both with Masi), Dhal Fry, the Prawn Sodhi and some Fried Shankara Fish on the side. The food was simple but excellent, exactly as home food ought to be! My only crib was that the dishes seemed overly priced for the quantity delivered.
