Food was amazing !! Tried a few items, everything was delectable. Chicken Sodhi went well with appam, loved it. Prawn thokku was another lit. Devilled prawn tasted very good, but it is more like a chilli prawn. Lemon juice, lime soda eveything was perfect. Pricing is very reasonable. service is slow though

A Decline in Quality and Service I have been a loyal customer of Kandyan ever since it opened and have visited regularly over the years. However, the recent decline in food quality and service has been truly disappointing. On Saturday, March 1st, we arrived at 8:30 PM to find only two other occupied tables. Despite five staff members being present, we faced immediate issues with availability—most items on the menu were unavailable, leaving us with limited options. We eventually placed an order for appams, kothu paratha, sambol, and a few other items. Please note - the wait staff said absolutely no beverages were available - not even soft drinks. The kothu paratha and sambol arrived within 15 minutes, but they were so excessively salty that they were inedible. Worse, the rest of our food took over 50 more minutes to arrive—meaning we waited a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes for dishes that were cold, extremely salty, and again, inedible. Despite six people in the kitchen, it seemed that only one lady was cooking, while the others were simply sitting around, checking their phones. On the floor, there was only one waiter, struggling to serve the entire restaurant with no support. There was no communication, no updates on our order, and no one attending to other guests, who also appeared to be waiting endlessly. Adding to the discomfort, the air conditioning was off, making the space unbearably hot, and there was no staff available to bring water or attend to basic service needs. Overall, the food was terrible, the service was even worse, and the experience was shockingly poor. I am baffled as to why the restaurant has deteriorated to this level. With staff sitting idle while one person does all the work, it’s no surprise that both food quality and service have suffered so drastically. Finally , when the bill arrived ( we had to go to counter to pay as we didn’t receive the bill despite asking 5x and waiting 20 Minutes) - we realized that they had double billed us for a few items and charged us extra. As a long-time patron, I sincerely hope Kandyan takes immediate action to address these glaring issues, as it would be unfortunate to see such a once-reliable place continue to decline. Why cook when you can get your comfort food delivered at your doorstep from Y Cook in Besant Nagar? Formerly known as Y Cook and presently as The Kandyan, this restaurant specialises in home style Sri Lankan food, though there are South and North Indian options on the menu as well. We decided to go Sri Lankan and ordered the Idiyappam made with red rice, Pol Roti, Pol Sambol and Seeni Sambol (both with Masi), Dhal Fry, the Prawn Sodhi and some Fried Shankara Fish on the side. The food was simple but excellent, exactly as home food ought to be! My only crib was that the dishes seemed overly priced for the quantity delivered.
