I had a rather unpleasant experience with the "What a Karwad" restaurant in Velachery, thanks to the Facebook idiots who recommended it. I decided to give their karuvadu taste a try and placed an order on their website. Here are the items I ordered: 1. Nethili Karuvadu thokku - ₹250 2. Pachapuli puli rasam - ₹100 3. Sheela single combo - ₹399 4. Prawns thokku - ₹300 5. Delivery for 27.6km - ₹414 Total: ₹1515 Now, let me share my review of the food items. The Sheela single combo (₹399) included rice, meen kulambu, and a disappointingly small quantity of nethili karuvadu thokku. To be precise, I found only three nethili in that thokku. The rice and meen kulambu were decent, but the nethili karuvadu thokku was a letdown. It was overloaded with onions and tomatoes, and had an overly sweet taste. It can hardly be called karuvadu. If you want to taste authentic karuvadu thokku, I suggest visiting Kadal Kitchen in ECR. However, I must mention that they have stopped providing it nowadays. As for the pachappuli rasam, it was a disappointment as well. Instead of cooking it over fire, they simply squeezed out the tamarind and tomatoes, resulting in a raw and unsatisfying dish. Personally, I did not enjoy it. Lastly, the vanjiram fry came with only two small pieces, which was acceptable, but it lacked the desired heat and the taste was just average. I can even make a better vanjiram fry at home. Moving on to the prawn thokku, it was slightly better than the nethili karuvadu thokku, but still fell short in terms of taste. Considering the price, the quantity was also not satisfactory. To my disappointment, when I ordered the nethili karuvadu thokku separately for ₹250, they replaced it with prawn fry, which was not worth the taste. Overall, I would rate my experience with this restaurant as 2 stars. The meen kulambu was the only dish that met my expectations, while everything else was below par. Consequently, I would rate my overall experience with only 2 stars. Although the meen kulambu was satisfactory, everything else fell short of my expectations. I would recommend trying a different place for a better dining experience. The advertisements promised delivery in a carton box, however, the actual delivery was made in polythene covers.
