Nestled in the heart of Chennai, The Flying Elephant is a fine dining establishment that offers a multi-cuisine experience. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with a touch of elegance that adds to the overall experience. The interior design is modern and chic, with comfortable seating arrangements that make it an ideal place for a romantic dinner or a night out with friends. The price range is on the higher side, but the quality of food and service justifies it.

The Flying Elephant is located within the Park Hyatt hotel and boasts of a beautiful outdoor seating area that overlooks the pool. The establishment also has a well-stocked bar that serves a variety of cocktails, soft drinks, and wines. Some of the must-try dishes include Tandoori Broccoli, Thai Green Curry with Jasmine Rice, and Adana Kababs. For drinks, The Wild One of Mexico cocktail is a crowd favorite, while the Coconut and Carrot Soup is a unique and delicious non-alcoholic option.

While the establishment does have a few flaws, such as slow service and limited spread for the buffet, the overall experience at The Flying Elephant is a memorable one. The attentive staff, beautiful ambiance, and delicious food make it a great place to dine in Chennai.

The Flying Elephant – Park Hyatt, Chennai We chose The Flying Elephant at Park Hyatt for our anniversary dinner, and the first thing that struck us was the incredible vibe. Spanning two floors with expansive seating, the restaurant has a lively, elegant ambiance. The music and decor were vibrant and uplifting—enough to put anyone in a good mood, even on a dull day. The Christmas season added a festive touch with seasonal cakes and decorations outside the restaurant, which made the experience feel even more special. We ordered a variety of dishes, including tenderloins, chicken (tandoor style), lamb, fish tikka, and Bangkok biryani. There was also a kid’s dish that we ordered, though I can’t recall the name. The fish tikka was quite good—flavourful and well-cooked—and probably the most enjoyable dish of the evening. The Bangkok biryani, though unique in style, didn’t leave a lasting impression in terms of flavour. Most of the food leaned toward a Thai fusion, which wasn’t always consistent. While one of the starters arrived quickly, the rest of the dishes took a very long time to be served. The service felt sluggish, and if it weren’t for the great ambiance, the delay would have been far more frustrating. The portion sizes were also disappointing. The small plates had only three pieces, and even the large plates felt underwhelming, offering just five chunks of meat. At the price point, the quantity definitely fell short of expectations. For dessert, we ordered a mango-and-cream preparation which was decent, but again—dont remember the name. In summary, The Flying Elephant excels in atmosphere and is a beautiful place for a celebration or date night. But in terms of food and service, it left us a bit underwhelmed. If you're going for the vibe, it's a great choice. If you're going for the food, manage your expectations. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: ₹2,000+ Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5
