It was an exceptional meal. However, the sauce in the chilly crab and prawn bao was a but salty.

God! I cannot even begin to tell you how deeply, existentially disappointed I am right now. Like, you know when you’re super excited to watch a show, and then it turns out to be some dull, meandering nonsense that somehow got greenlit? That’s what this meal was. Chicken and shiitake mushroom siu mai (烧卖) is a delicious variation of the classic Cantonese dim sum dumpling, usually made with pork. This version is lighter but still packed with umami from the shiitake mushrooms. So let’s start with that. A dish that, when done right, is supposed to be a little dumpling of joy. A perfect bite. Soft yet bouncy, bursting with flavor. But here? No. No, no, no. This was the food equivalent of someone telling a joke and then immediately explaining the joke in painful detail. Like, I get it, you tried, but my taste buds were sitting there, blank-faced, waiting for the punchline that never came. Instead, I got a weirdly mushy, flavorless thing that had the texture of a damp sponge and all the excitement of a tax seminar. Three Cup Chicken (三杯鸡) is a classic Taiwanese dish known for its rich, fragrant, and slightly caramelized sauce made from soy sauce, rice wine, and sesame oil. The name “Three Cup” comes from the equal parts of these three key ingredients. And then with the Three Cup Chicken. I had hope, you know? I really did. This dish is supposed to be rich and caramelized, with the perfect balance of soy sauce, sesame oil, and rice wine, coming together in a glossy, slightly sticky, aromatic dream. But what did I get? A tidal wave of soy sauce. Just straight-up salt water disaster. It’s like the chef thought, Hmm, what if we removed every subtle note of flavor and instead just made people feel like they’re licking the ocean? No umami. No depth. Just an aggressively one-note mess that made my taste buds feel personally attacked. And listen, I am all for paying good money for good food. But The Fatty Bao? They had the audacity to charge premium prices for this nonsense? No. Absolutely not. This was an overpriced betrayal, and honestly, if you’re thinking about going, just don’t. Save yourself. Take your money, go anywhere else, and get yourself a meal that respects you. Because this? This was not it. #bao #bengaluru #cantonese #lavelleroad #taiwanese Service: Delivery Meal type: Lunch Price per person: ₹400–600 Food: 2
