According to reviews, Taiwah Restaurant is considered one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in Siliguri, with some even claiming this was where they had Chinese food for the first time in town. Coming from a different state and reading all this, I visited with high expectations. Unfortunately, the experience was a major letdown. I ordered lime soda, pork chilli dry, chicken chowmein, and pork roasted chowmein, and the overall impression was that this place is surviving purely on legacy and hype. Even roadside Chinese stalls serve better food today. The chowmein was made using thick-sized noodles, resulting in a heavy, bland preparation with no standout flavour. The pork chilli dry was more like a hunt for pork, drowned in excessive onions, capsicum, and oil, with very little meat and no balance. What makes the experience worse is the exorbitant pricing. Charging premium rates for below-average, low-quality food simply does not add up. The cost is completely unjustified for what is served on the plate. Either people have become used to very mediocre flavours, or this place has failed to evolve with time. For a restaurant with such a reputation, the quality-to-price ratio is extremely poor and absolutely not worth the hype.
