Smoked Pork & Rice Thali - Rs.270 Square Point Naga Food, Don Bosco Square, Laitumkhrah, Shillong 31.08.23 As I was hunting for a new place to eat in Laitumkhrah, I stumbled upon Square Point. It is on top of Jeve's Food corner & serves what I was told the Chakhesang style Naga food. I went up a floor & entered this small little restaurant with 10-12chairs with seats overlooking the hustle & bustle of Don Bosco Square below. I took the menu from the counter & it didn't have much items, very focused & limited. I ordered a Smoked Pork & Rice Thali. Service was a tad slow as the ladies were busy with something but 15mins later my food arrived. It looked pretty basic when compared to the other Naga thalis I've had in town. It had a good portion of rice, 3 pcs of smoked pork curry, boiled cabbage, soup & chutney. I really like the rice that I get from the Naga eateries. It has alot of flavor & taste & is different from the basmati that is cooked at home. The smoked pork looked simple but was very tasty & had just enough of a kick to it. The meat was cooked well. The boiled cabbage helped give some respite to the spicyness at times. The chutney again gave it another kick. I wasn't sure the soup was needed as there was already enough flavors in the curry. Instead I would have preferred perhaps some lightly fried or sauted vegetables instead. Anyway the entire meal felt like a tasty roller coaster ride to me. Overall it's a simple decent meal with no pretensions whatsoever. Prices were a tad high but that must have been for the quality of the smoked pork. Service was ok. I'm sure there are still a few Naga Food eateries that I'm yet to discover, but I'm sure glad I found this one today.
