The biryani was not up to the mark. I have had better flavoured biryani elsewhere. The staff were nice and polite. Serving was a bit delayed. Great interior. The complimentary cake they provided for my parents’ anniversary was great. The manager was very nice and friendly. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Dinner Price per person: ₹2,000+

Visited Sonargaon for lunch during our stay at Taj Bengal and opted for the Bengali thali experience. The Seafood Thali was outstanding and easily one of the culinary highlights of our Kolkata visit. The standout dishes for me were the mustard fish wrapped in banana leaf and the prawn curry. Both were packed with flavour without being overly heavy. The fried fish was excellent as well and, since refills were included, I happily ordered more than once. The presentation deserves special mention. The meal arrived on a traditional platter lined with banana leaf, which added to the overall experience. The Mishti Doi and Rasgulla provided a perfect finish. What I appreciated most was that this felt like an introduction to Bengali cuisine rather than simply a meal. If you’re visiting Kolkata and want to experience traditional Bengali flavours in a comfortable setting, Sonargaon is worth considering. If you are going for dinner you need to reserve a table in advance but not for lunch. Highly recommend their North Indian fare. Highly recommend the black dal, sirka wala pyaz and paneer lababdar, garlic cheese naan, sonargaon raan. The gravy and raan quantities were enough for 4 people. Service was excellent. They also give you 20% discount if you are member of inner circle and on certain other cards. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Lunch Price per person: ₹1,400–1,600 Recommendation for vegetarians: Highly recommend Vegetarian offerings: Clearly labelled vegetarian dishes Vegetarian options: Black dal, paneer lababdar, cheese garlic naan Parking space: Plenty of parking Parking options: Valet
