Dinner Diaries: A Mixed Experience at Romeo Lane, ZirakpurLast night, I visited Romeo Lane, Zirakpur with a friend, and while the place has a great vibe, our dining experience was a rollercoaster of hits and misses. We began with a coffee, which turned out to be really good — smooth, flavorful, and a great start to the evening. Next, we ordered two soups: Hot & Sour and Chicken Manchow.Unfortunately, the Hot & Sour soup was a letdown — it had an overpowering artificial flavor and was way too thick, almost like all the cornflour in the kitchen ended up in that bowl.In contrast, the Chicken Manchow soup was quite nice — balanced and light on the palate. The Crispy Corn followed, and it was easily one of the highlights — crunchy, well-seasoned, and delicious. Then we ordered the Romeo Lane Special Platters — both veg and non-veg. The presentation was appealing, and a few items stood out in taste. However, there were clear misses. In the non-veg platter, the mutton was not up to the mark — my friend, who eats mutton, found lacking flavor. The fish was also underwhelming. As for the veg platter, the masala chaap was disappointing — poor texture and flavor. We also ordered a Romeo Lane Special cocktail, which was refreshing and nicely done. Then came the major hiccup of the evening — the beer delay. The first beer arrived promptly, but the second one took over 30 minutes, and the third came after 45 minutes, despite multiple follow-ups. Just as we were raising the issue with the manager (who, to be fair, was polite and responsive), the beer finally made it to our table. Still, a 45-minute wait for a beer is simply not acceptable — it really disrupted the flow of the evening. For mains, we ordered Dal Makhni, roti, and rice. The dal was creamy, flavorful, and truly comforting — probably the best part of the meal. The roti was soft and well-made. But the rice was disappointing — hard in texture, almost rubbery, and felt overcooked or reheated poorly.Another big letdown was the pricing — it’s sky-high, but the food quality doesn’t justify it. For the kind of prices they’re charging, the taste, consistency, and service need to be much better.⸻Final Verdict:Romeo Lane has potential — the ambiance is great, and a few dishes (like the coffee, crispy corn, cocktail, and dal makhni) were enjoyable. But the inconsistencies in food, the beer delays, and the overall mismatch between pricing and quality left us underwhelmed. The staff was polite, but operational efficiency definitely needs work.Would I go back? Maybe — but only if they improve both their service and food consistency.
