Romeo Lane, Bhubaneswar – A Beautiful Place with Pathetically Lazy Execution“Romeo Lane – please lane me not be here again.” That line sums up our afternoon. It’s genuinely disheartening to see such potential in Bhubaneswar’s hospitality scene go completely to waste because of negligence, poor service, and what felt like a blatant attempt to scam customers. We were a group of six, excited to celebrate a bachelorette party. We had made reservations well in advance via Zomato, even requesting a spot in the glasshouse area. Despite that, there was zero preparation. We were denied the table we had requested and were told that the space had to be decorated for a birthday party—something we never saw happen in the hours we were there.Instead, we were shunted off to a corner table. No effort was made to arrange or combine tables properly. It felt like we were being tolerated, not welcomed. The service? Terrible. We had to keep calling for servers, and when they showed up, they looked lost. The music was blaring in the afternoon, making communication and ordering difficult.Let’s talk food—and brace yourselves.Drinks: Inconsistent and average at best.Biryani: Shockingly bad—easily one of the worst I’ve had in years.Dimsum: Decent. One of the few salvageable items.Mezze Platter: This was a joke. Found a stone in it. Hygiene? Nonexistent.Pizza: After 20 minutes of waiting, we were told they didn’t have the ingredients.Grilled Fish: Over-salted and way too tangy. No balance.Pesto Broccoli: Misplaced under mains when it clearly belongs in appetizers. Oily, overpowering, and overpriced.Tres Leches Cake: Rs. 549 for what I can confidently say is a Rs. 60 product. Orange-flavored store-bought sponge, sugar syrup disguised as “tres leches.” Magnolia Bakery serves the real deal for less.Even the plating lacked consistency. Mezze came on decent stoneware, but the dips were in flimsy bowls that tipped over constantly. Attention to detail? None.As for the bill, we requested a small concession on the Mezze Platter due to the stone. While they gave a discount, they also denied us all Zomato/Swiggy offers, despite it being well within rights. The manager was rude, absent, and clearly disinterested in resolving anything. We ended up accepting a complimentary dessert, which again fell short.Final verdict: Bad food. Worse service. Overall a dreadful experience that left a bitter taste—not from the food, but the way we were treated.Bhubaneswar deserves better.
