Tucked away in Pune’s bustling Camp area, The Puna Zarthosti Seva Mandal isn’t a conventional café or restaurant—it’s a place rooted in community history and old-school charm. Known for its simple, comforting food and loyal local following, the Mandal feels more like a neighbourhood institution than a commercial eatery. We went in to try a selection of their popular baked and fried snacks and ordered the Prawns Puff, Butter Chicken Puff, Chicken in White Sauce Puff, and their much-loved Chicken Cutlet. The Prawns Puff was pleasantly flavoured, with tender prawns and mild seasoning wrapped in a flaky, golden pastry. It struck a nice balance between seafood sweetness and buttery crunch and ended up being one of the better puffs we tried. The Butter Chicken Puff leaned into familiar comfort—creamy, mildly spiced, and rich without being overwhelming. While it delivered exactly what you’d expect from a butter chicken filling, it felt a little predictable. The Chicken in White Sauce Puff was indulgent and smooth, with a creamy filling that bordered on heavy. The sauce slightly overpowered the chicken, but it still worked well as a warm, comforting bite. The Chicken Cutlet stood out for its simplicity. Crisp on the outside and soft inside, it was well-seasoned and reassuringly old-school. No frills, no experimentation—just a solid cutlet that paired well with the nostalgic setting. Overall, the food felt comforting, familiar, and satisfying, though not exceptional enough to be destination-worthy.
