Birthday Lunch Disaster at Pa Pa Ya Malad – Ended Up at the Irish House Instead! Went to Pa Pa Ya in Inorbit Mall, Malad (W) for my birthday lunch yesterday, having explored most Asian cuisine options in the area, hoping for a new Asian dining experience in Mumbai. It was a terrible experience. The first server assigned to our table displayed an astonishing lack of menu knowledge, repeatedly stating, "I have no idea what this is" when questioned about dishes. This level of under-training was incredibly frustrating, forcing me to request a more informed server. While the second server was indeed more helpful in guiding our order, this inconsistency in service is unacceptable. The ambience was poor – dirty tables and chairs, and the table next to us was used as a messy make shift service station, cluttered with tissues and chopsticks on the chair and service napkins and cutlery placed on the table with a POS machine lying around. Adding to the unprofessional presentation, a blazer with a name tag belonging to a "Mr. Dinesh" was casually hung on a chair. The table itself was chipped, and the chairs were visibly dirty (photos attached as evidence) We ordered a selection of appetizers: Shao Mai Chilli Chicken, Chicken Bao, Crispy Lotus Stems, and three mocktails (Pineginger Passion, Amazing Fizz, and Exotica). Even at this early stage of the meal, problems arose. The Crispy Lotus Stems arrived cold, suggesting they were pre-made and served to us. Upon sending it back and complaining, the mocktails arrived, delivered haphazardly by the same clueless first server. While the Shao Mai Chilli Chicken was the only dish I found enjoyable, the subsequent arrival of the Bao and the re-fired Crispy Lotus Stems was equally disappointing. The Bao was cold with a barely warm chicken filling, and the Lotus Stems were cold yet again, and far from crispy. At this point, my birthday lunch had become a source of immense frustration. I decided to forego ordering any mains and simply asked for the bill. When the server inquired about the food, I reiterated my disappointment with the cold Crispy Lotus Stems. His response, claiming it's a "wok-tossed dish served cold," was frankly insulting, especially given my culinary background. It felt like the lotus stem was deep fried well in advance and it had become soggy instead of Crispy. The situation then escalated into further absurdity. As I waited for my change, the manager appeared with a fresh portion of Shao Mai Chilli Chicken, stating he had it made as he thought we hadn't received it. This demonstrated a complete lack of communication between the kitchen and service staff, as we had already been served and had paid the bill. Ultimately, my birthday lunch at Pa Pa Ya was a complete letdown. Instead, we went to the Irish House for our mains, and I realized we should have just gone there for lunch in the first place. I ended up spending more, but the food at the Irish House was delicious. Will not return to this Pa Pa Ya location in Malad. Extremely disappointed. I'll consider visiting the BKC branch of Pa Pa Ya, but I will never return to the Malad location. Here’s a breakdown: Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
