After you have seen Vedic Expo, visit this restaurant. According to the clients' reviews, Indian dishes here are tasty. Oh! Calcutta should be recommended for perfectly cooked steamed fish, prawns on ice and chicken cutlets. Have a good time here and share tasty fruit ice cream, curry dessert and mango dessert with your friends. You will be offered good cordial, Sangria or wine. A lot of visitors order great iced mocha, moccachino or lemonade.

Oh Calcutta — A Few Years Late, but Here We AreIf there's one thing Bengalis are fiercely attached to, it's their fish and their cuisine. It's a beautiful thing — because when a restaurant focused on Bengali food becomes popular, you can be fairly sure the food must be genuinely good.Oh Calcutta has been on my Wishlist for a while now.First ImpressionsLocation: Not the best. Slightly tucked away, and frankly, doesn't do justice to the rich culinary heritage it's supposed to represent.Exterior: Too bland. It felt like the unplanned child of its parent restaurant, Mainland China ServiceNow, this was one area that stood out. The senior, older staff were polite, attentive, and ever-willing to accommodate requests. In fact, maybe a bit too willing — I noticed the table next to us had ordered Chinese food, clearly from the Mainland China menu.Arnav and I decided to hedge our bets and stick to what we came for — Bengali fish dishes. What We Ordered- Hilsa Fingers- Pan-grilled Bekti with Gandhoraj Lemon- Chicken Biryani (for Arnav — couldn't let him miss the famous Kolkata biryani!)They took a little time to serve, but that's always a good sign — freshly made food deserves its time.Table accompaniments included:- Kasundi mustard- Cucumber raita (served in a tiny 75ml bowl)- Green chillies poked with toothpicks and dipped in water — a charming throwback to Dhabas near Karnal.Dish by DishHilsa Fish Fingers:Five fish fingers were served in a whiskey glass on a bed of shredded cabbage. (Do restaurants still use this presentation in 2025?) The fish was minced into a paste, coated thickly with what seemed like breadcrumbs, and deep-fried. The taste was strong, bold, and unmistakably fishy.Taste: GoodTexture: Could have been better if they hadn't minced the fish.Portion Size: Too small for even one person.Presentation: AveragePan-grilled Bekti with Gandhoraj Lemon:Two small fillets served with sautéed vegetables. No sauce, no frills. The plate looked more like something you'd find in a breakfast buffet than a specialty restaurant.Taste: Flavorful and nicely cooked.Portion Size: Disappointingly small for à la carte dining.Presentation: Could be elevated with a sauce or better sides.Chicken Biryani:I thought this would be the safe bet — it’s hard to mess up Kolkata biryani, right? The portion was generous enough for an adult and a child. However, the cucumber raita given was far too little.Aloo: A major letdown — it tasted just like plain boiled potato, with no masala absorbed.Rice: The Basmati rice was overwhelmed with the scent of kewda/ittar — a bit too much, even for my forgiving nose.Chicken: Tender and juicy, thankfully.Overall, for someone like me (and most North Indians) who are used to a more Dum style biryani, this dish was a miss. Even keeping my biases aside, it could easily be skipped.Final ThoughtsI realize now that to truly judge Oh Calcutta, I need to go back for the fish curries. Only then would the review feel complete.Till next time!

We visited the place again recently and to be honest the place falls prey to inconsistency Unlike last time, the Mutton pieces were very hard in the Biriyani, the Biriyani was oily, OH! Calcutta GK runs Mainland China menu also - the Jang Chilli Chicken though good had very less quantity. Lesser than what was mentioned in menu. Nolen gur Ice cream and Bhapa Sandesh were only good. While in most of previous cases service was very good, we experienced disastrous service this time around......The attendant Prasoon did not change plates and well nobody served the food and they had the audacity to charge 10% service charge..... Request to MANAGEMENT- please don't get complacent and spoil this place - its a request Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3
