After spending an entire day at Padubidri Beach with sun sand and the kind of tiredness that only the sea can give you I landed up here with one clear goal to eat well and recover faster than my sunscreen could. This place turned out to be a very good decision. It is not a very touristy famous place. Kind of more familiar and preferred by the locals. Food Highlights: • Neer Dosa with Chicken Ghee Roast — light, delicate, comforting, yet just cheekily good enough to make rice jealous • Prawns Ghee Roast — rightly famous on the menu and totally worth it. The spice and perfect roast balance made me pause mid-chew, ponder life, then dive right back in • Half Plate Chicken Biryani — not seafood, I know, but a solid, aromatic companion that wasn’t overshadowed by its oceanic cousins In short:. Efficient service. Window seat + street view bonus. Amazing seafood & biryani. Great vibe after beaching all day I was seated quickly and got a comfortable window seat overlooking the outside which instantly set the mood. The weather was pleasant the view was calming and the service was surprisingly fast without making you feel rushed. It felt efficient but relaxed which is exactly what you want after a long beach day. Now to the food which honestly did most of the talking. The neer dosa deserves a special mention. It was unbelievably soft light and delicate almost melting on the plate and definitely in the mouth. One of those neer dosas that reminds you why simplicity when done right is unbeatable. The chicken ghee roast paired beautifully with it rich spicy and full of flavour without overpowering the dosa. The prawns ghee roast was equally impressive perfectly cooked generously coated and clearly the kind of dish this place knows well. I also ordered a half plate chicken biryani which turned out to be a solid choice aromatic well balanced and satisfying even when competing with strong coastal flavours. Overall the food from my side was just amazing. The ambience is simple the focus is clearly on what matters which is good food served well. No unnecessary drama just honest coastal cooking done right. If you are in or around Udupi especially after a beach visit and you want a relaxed meal with great flavours quick service and a comfortable seat this place fits perfectly. I would happily come back again preferably hungry and with more people so I can try more dishes. Machali Udupi restaurant is a must-visit for anyone in the area looking for top-quality seafood. The spices were perfectly balanced, enhancing the natural flavors of the seafood without overpowering them. The portion sizes were generous, and the presentation was impeccable. Machali started in udupi after a long wait with a bang.. I visited ten days back. It was a disaster. I tried prawns curry. Prawns was like rubber . Curry was hot but not up to the mark. Most disappointing was quality of rice they serve. If you eat and pay rs300 and think for what you gave paid 300 it's disaster. Totally they must rise the quality of food. If not it's not worth it.
