This is going to be a fairly detailed review. I first discovered Lumanti Farms Homestay through YouTube videos and was instantly drawn to it. In fact, we loved the look of it so much that we actually cancelled our return tickets just to extend our trip by a day and stay here. Located about 15 minutes’ drive from Darjeeling Chauk Bazar, Lumanti Farms offers a completely different perspective of the hills. From here, you get sweeping views of the tea gardens, the whole of Darjeeling town, and, on a clear day, even Mt. Kanchenjunga. We’re so used to looking at places like this from Darjeeling — but seeing Darjeeling itself from the opposite side was a unique and memorable experience. Reaching the property was easy. We took a shared car from Chauk Bazar (look out for the Arya Tea Estate share cars) and got here in just 15 minutes. The stay consists of three cottages and a dormitory with bunk beds. We stayed in the “Bakal” cottage, which arguably has the best view of the adjacent tea gardens. The room itself was a cozy wooden cabin with a double bed. It wasn’t very spacious, but perfectly fine for a night or two. The window view of the tea gardens added a nice touch. The main downside, however, was the bathroom. It wasn’t dirty, but there was a persistent foul smell that made it quite unpleasant to use. The fittings also needed maintenance — the sink leaked from underneath, causing water to pool on the floor, and small holes here and there, allowing spiders and centipedes to find their way in. I sincerely request the management to pay more attention to maintaining the bathrooms, as it was the only real dampener during our stay. Another major issue was the cobwebs around the property. I completely understand this is common in such locations and at this time of year, but a bit more effort to clear them, especially around pathways, would go a long way. Both my friend and I accidentally walked into the webs more than once, which wasn’t pleasant. That being said, everything else about the stay was wonderful. The uncle and aunty who run the place were warm, welcoming, and genuinely sweet people. The food they served was homely, wholesome, and delicious. After indulging in too much junk food in Darjeeling, having simple, tasty, homestyle meals here was exactly what we needed. Overall, Lumanti Farms Homestay is an excellent option if you want to spend a day or two away from the bustle of Darjeeling, without having to go too far from town. With just a little more attention to the bathrooms and upkeep, this place could be close to perfect.

I absolutely loved my one-night stay at this charming farm stay! It’s located just a little downhill from town, making it the perfect spot for a peaceful getaway with friends. The views are stunning, the food was incredibly delicious, and the host uncle and aunty were so sweet and accommodating. On a side note, there was no tissue paper available, so it’s a good idea to carry your own as shops aren’t very close. I’d definitely love to come back!
