Lakshmi Narayan Shaw and Sons, established in 1918, is a historic snack shop located at 158 Bidhan Sarani in North Kolkata's Sovabazar area. The shop is renowned for its 'telebhaja' (deep-fried fritters) and 'bharer cha' (tea served in clay cups), which were favorites of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose during his student days at Scottish Church College. The founder, Khedu Shaw, was known to supply these snacks to freedom fighters during secret meetings. This association led to a lasting bond with Netaji, who frequently visited the shop. In honor of his birth anniversary on January 23, the shop continues the tradition of distributing free fritters, attracting long queues of patrons each year. Today, the establishment stands as a testament to Kolkata's rich history, preserving the legacy of its association with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and serving as a cherished culinary landmark in the city. They are not spicy though for my taste buds. However heritage eatery is always a must visit.
