Imagine stepping into a reel life that smells like biryani and sounds like the clink of coffee cups. Welcome to the L’Ray Treat Café, Newtown’s charming homage to the maestro himself — Satyajit Ray — where the décor whispers “Charulata”, but your stomach demands “Goopy Gyne’s Gourmet.” Let’s start with the ambience — it’s a veritable film/art/book lover’s dream wrapped in a café napkin. With black-and-white stills, vintage posters, and dialogues scribbled like love notes on the walls, it feels like Ray himself might saunter out of the kitchen with your cappuccino. If you’re a cinephile, your heart will say “Bravo!” — but if you’re a plus-sized foodie, your hips might whisper, “Bruh, there’s barely space to breathe.” The Plot (a.k.a. The Food) Oh, the food — thankfully not as abstract as art-house cinema. From the pasta with just the right swirl of drama, to the flavourful kebabs that deserve their own background score, L’Ray Treat delivers a strong performance. Portions are generous enough to feed a hungry Feluda after a long case, and the pricing? Let’s just say it’s more “middle-class Byomkesh” than “Park Street posh.” The Intermission: Service Time If there’s one plot twist you didn’t ask for, it’s the slow service. Yes, the food is good, but waiting 30 minutes for it felt like I was stuck in Ray’s "Pather Panchali", monsoon included. The staff are sweet and apologetic, but hey, even Satyajit wouldn’t stretch a café scene this long. Final Take L’Ray Treat is a must-visit for Ray fans, foodies, and people who don’t mind playing musical chairs during rush hour. Just avoid peak times if you value your knees or your blood pressure. A little more elbow room and faster service would turn this “Short Film” of a café into a Full Feature Blockbuster. Mood: Nostalgic foodie with limited patience and unlimited appetite!
