‘A Fort Kochi Legend’
Ask anyone in Mattancherry and they’ll make you salivate and drool over the rich history and taste of Kayees chicken biryani and their evening munchies. In a cramped corner of the street you’ll find this small but fairly accommodating restaurant. As soon as you step inside, you’re welcomed by the rich aroma of the spices used in their many delicacies. Finding a table at rush hour is always difficult but we were fortunate and it was an easy order, 4 Kayees Biriyani.
The presentation is no different from any other biriyani place but you’ll find a lot of chicken in a single plate and the rice & spice mix is something truly authentic to Fort Kochi and Kayees. Reminiscing on the many movie and song references while munching on this flavor filled plate was a tick on my bucket list.
After asking around the locals we were amazed to find out that the place is better known for their special Egg Roast (Black in color), ‘as it’s something you’ll never find anywhere else’. Plus, the 4’o clock snacks and chai is a must have I.e if they don’t sell out.
Kayees also have outlets that serve the same authentic Biriyani in Kochi as well, but I’d suggest one to visit this small shack for the real experience.
