Like its better-known branch on A. J. C. Bose Road, Jimmy's Restaurant and Bar (to give it the name this branch uses) was synonymous with Chinese food in Calcutta for many years. Not too many people connected the two, but I always found the quality of the food to be good in both restaurants.Nowadays, the standard has gone down somewhat. They stick to their basic menu - standard Indian Chinese food, no fancy items - but even there, there is some disappointment once the food arrives. The chowmein is a little oily, the chicken gravy just that little more suspect. I won't even go into ajinomoto usage here, because almost all Chinese restaurants use it.The service is good and the waiters polite. Overall, it remains a good place for a quick meal, especially if you're in the New Market area.
