On a recent dinner outing, we stopped by Homiga, the lively Korean fine-dine and BBQ spot tucked inside Forum Rex Walk on Brigade Road. Known for its stylish interiors, interactive dining experience, and authentic Korean flavours, Homiga has carved a niche for itself among Korean cuisine lovers in the city. The ambience at Homiga strikes a nice balance between modern and cozy — warm lighting, minimalistic décor, and tasteful accents set the tone for a relaxed yet elevated meal. The staff were attentive and guided us through the menu, making it easy to navigate dishes that can be unfamiliar to those new to Korean cuisine. Here’s what we tried:. Samgyupsal — A classic Korean favourite, this is premium pork belly served ready for grilling. The meat arrived uncut, with a good layer of fat and lean sections that the manager grilled up crisp outside and juicy inside for us on the hot-plate set in the table. Each bite had a smoky depth, and it paired perfectly with the accompanying sides and sauces — a true introduction to Korean BBQ culture. Nakji Bokkum & Jumukbap — Nakji Bokkum is a spicy stir-fried octopus dish, made with tender baby octopus and crisp vegetables tossed in a vibrant sauce. The heat was assertive but not overwhelming, and the texture of the octopus was pleasingly firm yet not chewy. Jumukbap — literally “fist rice” — was the perfect accompaniment, with rice formed into the shape of small cylinders that tempered the spice and added balance to the dish. Chamchi-mayo Gimbap — Gimbap is a beloved Korean roll of seasoned rice and fillings wrapped in seaweed, similar in concept to sushi but distinctly Korean. Our version featured tuna mixed with mayo, giving it a creamy, savoury flavour that was clean and satisfying. Each bite was neat, mild, and refreshing — ideal as a lighter counterpoint to the BBQ and spicy mains. Makgeolli (Korean Rice Wine) — A traditional Korean rice wine, slightly milky in appearance with a gentle tang and fruity undertones. Smooth and easy to sip, it complemented the meal nicely without overpowering the food. Its subtle sweetness and creamy texture made for a pleasant contrast against the savoury and spicy dishes. Overall, it was a very enjoyable meal — the quality of the ingredients, flavour profiles, and the attentive service all contributed to a memorable experience. The dishes we tried reflected authentic Korean techniques and tastes, and the whole meal felt like a proper introduction to Korean dining culture in Bengaluru. Homiga does lean slightly on the expensive side, but given the premium ambience and overall execution, it feels justified for a special dinner or a well-curated weekend meal.
