Now whenever I go to a restaurant, I look for everything from ambiance to staff courtesy to food quality including presentation. Now this is where Gopal's are not managing the things like they should be doing. I am going to tell you about just one incident which is more or less similar to all the experiences I have had so far. I and a friend of mine wanted to catch-up and since he is a pure vegetarian, we chose Gopal Sweets. I think the management of Gopal Sweets has not taken the training that they give to the staff seriously. The staff is courteous to some extent and I have no objection on that but the way they handle things is something needs fixing. For instance, when I and my friend sat down on the table, the staff had probably just wiped the table and was half wet, which is not pleasing as that kind of unnerves your experience. Also the paper leaflets which is used as menus in Gopal Sweets was plain put on that table, with water patches absorbed in the paper! Now I as a customer would not even want to handle such menu but just read it from table only! And to top it all the waiter who serves you water comes with the glasses with water half spilled out of them in the tray, so that when you put it on table and pick it up, a ring of water is left! I was kind of focused all the time to put it down on the same ring, where as my friend was focusing on making Olympic rings out of his glass :D lol! Good game on our part but bad practice on theirs.
We ordered 2 paneer tikkas and my friend wanted a butter naan too. The presentation of the tikkas was really good and it looked nothing but just terrific that my mouth was watering and tastebuds craving for the same. The butter naan was equally temptinh. The green mint chutney and salad accompanying the same was simply stunning. Now this is where it was kind of sad again. The food till the time it reached to us was just cold! Plain cold! The taste was good and it would have been exemplary if it was hot but this is where it went down the hill for me. I don't mean to be to harsh but then how long does it take to bring a dish out of kitchen to the customer so that it doesn't go cold? I was forced to contemplate it in my head that either the Paneer Tikka was stale or was brought late somehow. I went with the latter case as it tasted amazing and could not have been stale. But either ways the damage was done.
But there is one thing I appreciate. The salad accompanying the Paneer Tikka was coleslaw and my friend being vegetarian told the waiter to take the salad back because the mayonnaise could have had the egg as ingredient (so much for being pure vegetarian eh). Instead of the same, the waiter was kind enough to bring the green salad within 5 minutes to compensate for the same. Now this is what I want to point out. Waiters are humble and considerate, but Gopal Sweet's management needs to take initiative to train them properly. One can see and tell clearly they must have been put to work the first day without any prior training. If you have invested so much in your restaurant, take a little pain and invest in these assets too.
At the end my friend asked food server about the desserts that he would suggest, the waiter had only one suggestion, ras malai and we ordered the same. And it was just HEAVENLY! As in movies, our catching up at Gopal Sweets ended on a sweet note, don't mistake it with romantic :D
So to sum it up, not too heavy on pocket, good food but cold (something that might be one time mistake but should be taken care of), desserts are just heavenly, waiters are humble and hardworking.
Suggestion to Gopal Sweets - Please take initiative to train the waiters on these little things that makes a customer's experience exemplary.
