Been coming here since last four years. Never ever disappointed with the beer. Belgian wit/Apple cider being my personal favorites. What's yours?
In the last month there were at least 3 occasions when I wanted great craft beer and good food in a relatively quiet environment…and geographically between two corners of Pune city. So, I put on my thinking cap…and suddenly it dawned to me…Flambos…the dark horse that goes without much talk…but serves some really amazing brews and food, doesn’t play loud music and is centrally located right next to Inox (Bund Garden Road). I’ve always been thrilled with Flambos in over 10 visits over the years.
Flambos makes some really delicious craft brews. Their Belgian Wit is fantastic…it’s got a beautifully sour opening, a medium-heavy mouth feel and a citrusy finish…just classic stuff. I love the one by White Owl…this one is right up there. Arguably the best stout in Pune…yes it’s a notch better than TJ’s Brew Works’ Devil’s Dark…the Stout at Flambos has fantastic undertones of cocoa and roasted malts…with a heavy yet silken mouth feel…words just cannot do it justice. The Hefeweizen too is very good…they still cannot match the one by Effingut…nevertheless it’s damn good on its own. BTW, they have Happy Hours every day from 12 pm to 10 pm…a small (280 ml) glass of craft beer is for Rs. 279…with a one-on-one it’s a steal! The Happy Hours are also applicable on certain IMFL brands (1+1 offer) and cocktails (2+1 offer).
Flambos also has a bunch of starters that complement their beers really well – the best way to try them is to pick a Sampler Platter…it allows you to pick any 3 starters (from a rather long list)…which are served in medium portions in a platter for Rs.699. Otherwise each starter is for Rs.249. Some of my favourites are Buttermilk Chicken Strips, Garlic Lemon Fish (Basa), Chicken Tikka (each for Rs. 249), Fish Tikka (Rs. 399). Their German Sausage Platter (Rs. 1299) too is a chicken and pork lover’s dream come true…6 types of chicken and pork sausages and bacon served with BBQ and mustard sauces.
A very vital point which many people wish for today is ‘pet-friendly’ places. And the entire premises of Flambos (alfresco and AC) is pet-friendly…they don’t have a pet menu…but they do have separate water bowls for pets. I’d gone with a friend and her 4-legged baby…boy did we have a blast!
The service is worth a mention. Their manager, Shibu is really sweet and helpful. On one occasion I found my Fish Tikka to be too spicy…so I asked for a fresh one immediately after my first bite…not only did he replace my dish with a less spicy fabulous version, he didn’t even charge me for the one I had rejected. It’s a small gesture with a bit impact…and very few customers (who are A-grade cheapos) will try to exploit such a kind gesture.
I’ve been hoping for a while now that Flambos has another outlet(s) in the city…preferably closer to Aundh (cos’ I stay there). Who knows…there just might be a plan to open not 1 but multiple new branches…oops…did I let out a secret? Till that happens, I’m going to continue reveling in the tantalizing brews and food at Flambos, Bund Garden Road.
P.S.: Do go through their menu in detail to get some cool info about beers.
