Old Frozen Chicken, with a hint of frozen blood smell. Chicken Smells bad. Very Very Very Poor Quality of Chicken.Complaining in FSSAI.Steam rice also Average Quality but charging to costly.
Being a hardcore foodie, this is hopefully first among the many reviews to be wriiten.
Fishland khopat; one of the most sought after restaurants in Thane for seafood.
One of the most crucial points while choosing restaurants in thane is availability of parking. Although fishland restaurant is smack in the middle of metro thane it was mildly pleasant to find parking right in front of restaurant. With no valet parking services, it would be a difficult proposition to find parking on weekends.
Another critical issue to consider is the ambience of the restaurant. Although the ambience of the restaurant was very good, it was slightly unpleasant to find the service team shouting right across the restaurant floor. Mix-ups are inevitable while serving across a large floor but the decorum of restaurant is spoiled when the customers can hear the service team shouting at each other. It should be added that the shouting match of the service team was not happening on the floor itself but when the service counter is right across the floor, it would be well served if the floor manager keeps into account that the customers can hear every single thing being said in the kitchen..
A restaurant is as good as the food it serves and that is always its first priority. With regards to it, fishland can proudly be considered among the best joints for sea food cuisine. Anybody salivating for a fresh and succulent fish produce will be well satiated with the excellent array of dishes in the menu.
My family is a plethora of choices where someone only likes mutton, some prefer chicken while others survive on sea food hence ordering food is always a colossal nightmare.
For starters, we had paaya soup and chicken sweet corn. Needless to say, anyone having common cold should try out the paaya. It not only alleviates the cold but clears the sinuses and makes you feel refreshed.
Starter entré was steam patra surmai and our family age old favourite vegetable crispy. The presentation of steamed surmai on a banana leaf with chatni on it made you feel weak in the knees with hunger and needless to say, it was GONE IN 60 SECONDS. Eventhough it was a sizeable portion of fish, the succulent flavour made it irresistible to eat fashionably and everyone went gung-ho on it.
Main course was a whole different proposition. It was butterchicken, surmai thali, mori masala (shark fin) thali and mutton thali.
It should be said that eventhough the restaurant is renowed for its seafood cuisine, I would recommend its butter chicken as it was one of the best prepared recipes I have tasted in some time.
Regarding the thalis, I would like to point out that anyone with a weak stomach or born with a sweet tooth should present themselves beforehand to the floor manager before ordering. If not informed, sea food thalis are prepared with a fiery masala that serves a lip smacking flavour for the localites who enjoy fiery stuff but would definitely be a cause for concern for someone who is not used to the hot stuff. Even the hardcore hot stuff eating people like my father had to take a breather every now and then (p.s. he ordered it extra hot).
Eventhough hot and fiery, the food was excellent, the meats were moist and tender, the sea food succulent. If you order correctly according to your palate preference, it is probably one of the best restaurants in Thane even surpassing some of the highly renowned fish joints in Thane and probably some in Mumbai.
Regarding service, although timely and efficient, you still feel a little underwhelmed probably because of the constant and incessant shouting that can be heard (p.s. we were sitting in the ac room on 1st floor and had a seat next to the service counter probably thats why the noise was so severe) but no matter the location of customer, it would serve well for the restaurant decorum if the customers dont get to hear every small differences or orders being barked loudly. It should be noted that the floor staff was extremely well mannered and proficient in front of the customers but it was a different story behind the glass doors. The half star rating removed from the review is only for it.
All in all, a very pleasant experience and would gladly recommend to anyone looking for good sea food or for that matter, excellent butter chicken.
