Since 2011, we have been spending our winters in Varkala. Have eaten at most of the established restaurants, including Clafouti & They have all been of an acceptable level. This year we went as a party of seven and I have to say it was one of my worst culinary experiences! All the drinks immediately they took 45 minutes to arrive and they had forgotten two of the parties order. ordered the food after 20 minutes trying to signal a waiter we finally ordered our food this took one hour and 15 minutes to arrive.. After we had reminded the staff twice. When the food arrived, they had again forgotten to of our party and they had to wait another 30 minutes! The food was very average and expensive for what you received. They won the award for the worst chips I have ever eaten in my life(I’m nearly 78). I think this place is living on its reputation because amazingly it was pretty full. To add salt to the wound, I now have diarrhoea I Won’t be returning. Avoid Service: 1

The room we got was the first floor rooms. The rooms were pathetic as the doors were not functioning properly especially the bathroom door. The tap inside the bathroom was broken. Maintenance work has been long pending on this property by its looks. But the location is prime on the varkala cliff and they have a decent restaurant. But the pool was missing for a resort of this kind. Service: 4

After seeing great review (I’m sure it’s a paid review) from a renowned Indian youtuber, I fell for the trap of booking this property. Although this property had great location but there are few things that should be genuinely considered before booking this property. There were ants and small worms/bugs in the bed. Ants bit us the entire night and we could barely sleep. Nonetheless the room charges were higher than average (definitely on the higher side). They had no cloth drying rack or any arrangement for drying clothes whatsoever, although it’s a beach property where people would go to the beach and get wet. Secondly they had not given us any doormat inside the room. Neither at the bed front nor at the bathroom door and the worst part is that the bathroom is at the end of the room. So one comes from the beach soaked in sand and water, he/she enters the room, crosses it entirely with that dirty body and then theres no doormat, making the room intensely dirty. Nevertheless, when we complained about the ant bites, the staffs immediately deep cleaned the room and acknowledged that there was a family with small kids that stayed right before us and had the room real dirty but my point is why couldn't they do it beforehand, before a customer complaint? Later I came to know that there’s an ant issue in this hotel and the same has been repeated with several other customers. Other than that, their Staffs were extremely polite and decent. They have a wonderful restaurant that served delicious food. But given a chance I won’t stay with them again. Service: 5
