This cafe was a pleasant surprise. We came here by chance when the restaurant we were going to on recommendation turned out to be closed. Excellent atmosphere, good and fast service, tasty food. The pasta was really like real Italian cuisine. Prices are not high. Highly recommended. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: ₹200–400 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I was a fan of the now defunct cafe 17 branch in kaloor, so we went into this hoping it would've capture the same feeling. Unfortunately the food was below par, and this means I cannot say Cafe 17 is worth the visit. The ambience is.. Moody, bordering on silent unease, considering how the place was quite dark. The location doesnt lend any favors either, being in a much quieter part of the city centre. We went for dinner and tried 4 dishes: 1. Chicken parmigiana: This was the most disappointing dish there. I loved the old parm that they had over at kaloor, but this one was tasteless and bland. It felt like they'd forgotten any semblance of seasoning. The chicken itself was cooked well, but the pasta underneath it was on par with some of the instant noodles I've made in the past. Neither had a flavor that really inspired, and I was disappointed by the quantity. They gave a meagre selection of vegetables to accompany it, and I'd have been forgiven for mistaking it for a childrens portion. 2. Pasta Nduja: The dish redeemed a bit of the overall experience. Imagine a spaghetti bolognese but with much more meat and less sauce. It might seem like it would be dry but they managed to strike a balance and it was just moist enough. If you're getting any dish, try this one. Recommended. 3. Caramel pudding: This was a decent caramel pudding, good quantity. Nothing more to say. 4. Royal brownie with ice cream: I must say I was unhappy with this dessert. For what they charge you, this is something I could've made at home for half the price with the same level of quality. The brownie seemed too sweet and surprisingly similar to the packet brownies you can buy from a store. The sauce and ice cream were also extremely average, and that is being generous. This dish has failed to capture the imagination as anything more than absolutely basic and I highly recommend ordering something else for dessert. The experience in terms of service however was a different story. The servers were quick and very helpful, and I have no complaints on that end. They were polite and quick with their job, and didn't need to be prompted for the most basic of tasks like providing a menu or water. All in all, this wasn't my favorite night out, and I wish some of the food had tasted better. The only reason the place is getting 2 stars is because of the excellent service. If you're looking for a new cafe to try out, I'd steer clear of here and focus on some of the city's better offerings.
