A place of fond memories. We did not have any overnight stay. We went to have lunch on a day tour. So here's the review of the short but surprisingly good experience! The property is behind the Mal Bus Stand, adjacent to the Bonolokkhi Tourism Property. I expected it to be run down like most govt. tourist lodges but I have to say, I was modestly surprised by the clean and minimalist decor. I was happy to find that the place was being maintained well. There's a big parking lot. The reception is on the ground floor. Both the restaurant and the bar are on the 1st floor. There are little booklets listing main tourist attraction and maps of dooars and of W.B. Comprehensive booklets for beginners. Guests are free to take one if they like. The bathrooms were clean. Standard sized. The dining area is spacious and clean. We had salad, fine rice, moong dal, mixed veg, aloo bhaja, Boroli machh, chicken curry (2 pieces) and chutney. Very pleased with the way the dishes were cooked. Just like home. The surprise was Aloo Bhaja. They sliced up the potatoes across and parboiled them first. Then coated them in a Besan batter and deep fried them. It was so tasty. Am going to try making the same at home. The aunty (I forgot to ask her name) who took our order, served us the food and rang up our bill, always had a sweet smile on her face. Such a sweet and humble temperament. All in all, we were very pleased with our experience. Would visit again if the chance arrives!
