Today I am going to write about one of my all-time favorite places in Mumbai and that is the legendary Kala Ghoda Café in Fort. Honestly, given the history of this place, the years it has been around, and the sheer number of loyalists who swear by it, I do not think I am even qualified to review it. But not writing about it would feel like a disservice to the institution that it is.Kala Ghoda Café, for me, is perfection. The food, the service, the vibe, and the people it attracts from every corner of the city and beyond, it all comes together in a way that is quietly marvelous. The Chicken SchnitzelMy absolute staple here is the chicken schnitzel. Now, a schnitzel done right is thinly pounded meat that is evenly breaded, fried till golden with a crisp crust that crunches just right while the inside stays tender and juicy. At Kala Ghoda Café it is exactly that, textbook perfect. The first bite has that delicate crackle and then the chicken just melts, flavorful without being greasy. Every time I eat it I find myself thinking this is how schnitzel was meant to be. It is so good that I would run out of adjectives if I tried to describe how much I love it. This dish, I will admit, makes me emotional. The Salli BotiThen there is the salli boti, another dish I order without fail. The mutton is cooked down till it is tender enough to fall apart, soaking in a gravy that is rich, spiced just right, and comforting to the soul. Pair it with the ragi roti they serve alongside and you have got a combination that feels wholesome yet indulgent. It is one of those dishes you look at and already know it is going to be good, then you taste it and it is even better. I can honestly say I have not come across another salli boti in the city that I prefer over this one.The Salad and CoffeeNow I must apologize, I cannot for the life of me recall the name of the salad my friend always orders. But I have tried it often and it is fresh, vibrant, and beautifully balanced. As for the coffee, I usually go for a cold brew. Here it leans a little more on the acidic side which is not quite my personal preference though I know many people who enjoy exactly that profile. But let me be clear, that is just taste and it takes away nothing from the overall brilliance of Kala Ghoda Café.The Café ExperienceI have sat in every corner of this café over the years, the original section facing the road, the main space buzzing around the ice cream counter, and even the cozy inner speakeasy style room where they serve wine. No matter where I have parked myself the experience has never once been disappointing.Kala Ghoda Café has dishes that do not just satisfy hunger, they create memories. The schnitzel makes me teary eyed, the salli boti remains unmatched, the vibe of the place always warms me up. If you have never been, do yourself a favor, go, order these dishes, you will not regret it.

If you're around fort and need a coffee, do surely visit Kala Ghoda cafe, the vibe is something vintage and soothing! Nonetheless the service is on point, Mr Cruz was v helpful, making sure the table was provided as per my comfort and when asked about food, well described! The coffee was made as per my likings, less heat creating more Crema, not the best but better than others around! There are other brands being on the major front of fort but yet not keeping up w the name and place, just hyped and happy w footfall for their name! do visit this hidden cafe! The lanes are very happening to be around as well!
