Azad Hind Dhaba, located beside NH16 at Uluberia, Kolkata is one of the most common halt points for night Volvo buses on the Kolkata to Puri/Bhubaneswar route. I had dinner here during my journey and tried their Butter Naan and Chicken Kosha. The food was good in taste, but I didn’t quite get that authentic dhaba flavor I was expecting. The prices are also a bit on the higher side compared to what you would usually expect at a highway dhaba, making it feel closer to restaurant-style pricing. On the positive side, the menu is very extensive – covering Mutton, Chicken, Fish, Tandoori Kebabs, Butter Masala varieties, Paneer and Dal dishes, South Indian options, as well as a wide range of Fried Rice, Noodles (veg & non-veg), breads, pulaos, and desserts like Gulab Jamun and Gajar ka Halwa. So, there’s no shortage of choices. The seating arrangement is spacious and gives dhaba vibes, with the added convenience of an AC family dining hall. Washrooms are available, which is very useful for highway travelers, but since the place sees heavy daily usage due to frequent bus halts, they tend to get dirty quickly. Overall, Azad Hind Dhaba is a reliable food stop with variety, comfort, and facilities – but the slightly higher pricing and lack of that true rustic dhaba taste keep it at 4 stars instead of 5.
