Royal Italy Restaurant in Palolem appears to be a very popular spot, especially judging by the large number of foreign visitors we observed dining here. While the atmosphere seems appealing to a wide international audience, our personal lunch experience delivered mixed results, leaning toward average overall in terms of taste and quality. The Italian Disappointment Despite the restaurant's name, the specialty dish we tried was, unfortunately, a significant letdown. Dish Ordered: Veg Loaded Pizza Review: This was, quite frankly, terrible in taste. It did not meet even basic expectations for a pizza, and based on this dish, the "Royal Italy" name is certainly not worthy of the pizza they serve. We recommend looking elsewhere if you are craving authentic or even good-quality Italian pizza. The Goan Thali Assessment Hoping for better luck with the local fare, we also tried a traditional option. Dish Ordered: Fish Thali Review: The Fish Thali was not particularly good. The accompanying elements—the curry, rice, and salad—were all underwhelming and lacked fresh flavor. The Bright Spot: The only redeeming part of the thali was the inclusion of the Rawa Fry Pomfret, which was prepared well and tasted quite good. Service & Popularity Service: The service was noticeably slower, though this is something we can understand and tolerate during peak lunch or rush hours. The staff seemed busy tending to the many patrons. Patronage: The restaurant clearly has a strong appeal, as we saw many foreign tourists dining there. It seems to be a favorite among this demographic, which may account for the perpetual rush. Final Verdict Based on our lunch experience, Royal Italy Restaurant offers an average dining experience. While the ambience and popularity (especially with foreigners) are high, the execution of the food itself needs significant improvement. Skip: The Pizza.
