I recently visited Impasta in Nungambakkam with friends and it turned out to be a mixed experience with fantastic food paired with disappointing hygiene standards. We ordered quite a bit: the Pulled Pork pasta, Brown Butter and Mushroom pasta, Aglio e Olio with Chilli Oil, a fish starter, fries with garlic and parmesan, a pizza, and a couple of drinks. The food itself was genuinely impressive. The pulled pork pasta and the tiramisu were the clear standouts and overall I would rate the food a solid 9 out of 10. Portions were generous and worth the price. The only miss was the fries, which were extremely salty. The ambience has a warm rustic feel but the interiors are starting to look a little worn out. What really affected the experience was the dust. I have a dust allergy and kept sneezing throughout, which definitely took away from the meal. A deeper cleaning of the space would make a world of difference. Service-wise, the staff were kind and attentive and the food came out at a reasonable pace considering everything is made fresh. Basic hygiene practices like wearing gloves and hairnets would also be reassuring to see. The biggest concern and the reason I would not return for now was the hygiene. We noticed a cockroach on our table right before leaving, which was disappointing and honestly concerning. It made us question the cleanliness of the kitchen and dining area even though the food was excellent. Overall, Impasta has immense potential. The food is excellent, the menu is well thought out, and the service is friendly. Cleanliness and an upgrade in decor are urgently needed. I had recommended this place to friends before this visit, but I would not confidently recommend or revisit until the hygiene standards improve. Also! 50% of the menu wasn't available. This too was a huge letdown. I initially wanted pasta bolognese (which every pasta restaurant should have, it's a staple dish). They didn't have it :(.
