White Plate by Chef Jason, Goa This was a planned stop on our last trip to Goa. We reached a bit early for our 3 PM reservation (which is quite a late lunch by any standard), but the restaurant strictly adhered to its timing and didn’t let us in before the slot. A bit of a dampener, but we strolled around and came back. Once inside, it was a whole different experience. The space felt tastefully designed, bathed in white with arched windows and gold-detailed cutlery setting the tone for what was to come. We were the only ones there at the time, so it felt like a private chef’s table experience. We both opted for the Tasting Menu (₹4000 per person) and intentionally chose different dishes to try as much as possible. From the Goan Chronchicle and Vodka Infused Chimichurri Pork Belly, to Hay Smoked Mackerel Pâté, Scallops, Forestier Grub, Lobster Bisque, Steak & Bone Marrow, and more — it was a well-paced journey through flavours and forms. The kids got their own seafood main, and a few surprise courses were brought out for the whole table that made us feel well looked after. Two clear highlights: the very first appetiser, which literally bursts in the mouth, and the olive dessert, which is best experienced without spoilers. If this place was in Mumbai, we’d probably need to wait months for a slot. It definitely matched (if not outshone) some of the celebrated tasting menus we’ve tried in the city.
