Taste good beer, it's a must while visiting this bar. Most of the time, the pretty atmosphere is to be found here. Waquan is ranked 4.6 within the Google grading system.
Having been a year ago and eaten such delicious food, our meal last night was so disappointing. We went with a big group, meals were served so slowly, one by one that after 3 hours, 4 members of a family were still waiting, and left hungry. My dish tasted horrible and I had to force myself to eat it due to hunger. Bad service all round. Embarrassed for all the people we brought with us promising an extraordinary dining experience.
Such an amazing place. The best food and atmosphere. They can host private dinners and small groups. Lovely experience Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
A shabby-chic hideaway where Robbie has nailed a rustic oasis of palette shocking delights. 9 of us went to Waquan for a 21st birthday last night. I've known Robbie for 8 years and always been a fan of his cooking. This was my second venture to his new restaurant. Boy has he upped the ante. What a fantastic meal. We'd booked a few days before and had based our meal on the set taster menu, but had also asked for some good fish dishes. When discussing how we'd like the fish cooked we said to Robbie "go mad, be as creative as you want and don't worry about the budget, it's a special occassion". He delivered beautifully. We were celebrating a 21st birthday. 5 of the group were early 20s, and 4 of us in our 40s and 50s. All of us real foodies (as much as that word irks me), London based, and have eaten in very good restaurants regularly. I'm going to reflect on some of the quotes I overheard during our dinner: "Have you tried the cauliflower taco, it's amazing" "The prawn tacos are incredible" The rosemary chicken had people going "oh my god" - in fact the phrase "Oh. My. God" was heard at pretty much every dish. My good friend said "I don't like kingfish as a general rule, but this is incredible. So moist and the taste is fantastic" A second fish, a barramundi I believe, was even tastier. The mother-in-law of the birthday girl, arguably the discerning foodie at the table was impressed with each and every dish and blown away by the juice the clams came in. 5 people around the table agreed the butterflied king prawns were the best prawns they'd ever eaten. Actually, I'll add myself to that - 6 of us agreed that. Goodness knows how Robbie gets so much taste in that dish. Every dish was brilliant. As a special birthday treat Robbie also prepared brownies as a cake with a candle. What a winning finish. They arrived warm from the oven. The birthday girl said "this is the best brownie I've ever eaten" Her boyfriend said "I don't really like brownies, but these are incredible - so light and tasty" His mum, the real foodie and incredible cook herself had asked for ice cream to go with the brownies. She then tried one and said "these don't need ice cream, they're incredible". Then home made ice cream then arrived anyway and everything took a step up again. 5 star dining in a chilled rustic setting 10/10. One of the most memorable dining experiences of my life.
