Some respite from the regular Chinese, Indian and Italian! The pork and chicken were well cooked and literally falling off the bone. We loved the food! We even got them to home cater for a small party. Enough said.
So this post is a little late...but definitely describes one of the best home delivered meals, even better than most dine-in restaurants, I’ve had in town.
Saturday night, before the shenanigans, we decided to order in some food.
I suggested that we should order from ViaGoa since I’d spotted a photo of the new batch of Goan Choriz they’d got in. I’m absolutely love Goan Choriz it has this slightly sour n pungent flavor with spicy bang that really lights up my palette and is a pleasure to eat.
The last time I had tried ordering from them, they were sold out due to some party orders, but this time, we were in luck!
So the order for the evening was, 1 Pork Belly Vindaloo, 1 Pork Sorpotel, 2 Goan Prawn Curries and 2 Goa Choriz (accompanied by pao). Alongside was steamed rice (ordered separately, 2 portions).
Amidst the traffic-riddled streets, the deliveryman managed to reach us with warm food, a definite plus, considering that the food was coming to Chattarpur to GK-1.
The food was packed in individual containers with lids, all taped and cling wrapped. There was ZERO spillage and I guess the packing contributed to the food remaining warm.
Naturally I first dug into the choriz. Sublime. The unmistakable flavor of the Goan sausage quickly took over my senses, foodgasm, shining through the other elements of the dish. This dish is cooked in bhaji-style with potatoes, tomatoes, onions & green chilies with healthy chunks of choriz. Goes wonderfully well with the pao, which has a slightly sweet edge to it, wonderfully balancing the slightly fiery dish n pungent choriz.
Next up on my plate was the Vindaloo & Sorpotel.
The sorpotel is essentially a fermented dish with Portuguese origin made from of mutton (or beef) liver and pork meat. It’s tangy & spicy and this preparation was no different. I’m not a big fan of liver but this dish was excellently cooked and very flavorful. My friends really enjoyed it and in fact rated it as their favorite dish of the evening.
The vindaloo was epic!! I have eaten pork vindaloo in a LOT of places, in Goa, other cities of the country and even overseas, but I have to say that ViaGoa takes the spot for THE BEST vindaloo that I have had the pleasure of eating.
Sour n spicy with a great texture & consistency in the gravy topped of with succulent & soft pieces of the pork belly made this dish a pleasure to eat. Most places use the leg portion in this dish or similar preparation, which can leave the meat a little tough some times, but the belly ensured this would not happen. I hogged on it with the pao and rice for me both complimented the dish really really well. Definitely not for a weight watcher! :P
Last on my plate was the Prawn curry with rice.
The first bite of the Prawn curry literally transported me to one of the small home-style dhabas of Goa. The curry was so flavorful, the prawns were really sweet & juicy and I was marveling at how the chef had managed to recreate such flavor so far away from the coast!
Total cost of the meal was Rs. 2,820, which is well worth the quality, quantity (will easily feed 4) and the service provided! Everything was very delicious, though I am partial to the Choriz.
I highly recommend ordering from them soon, before they run out!!
