This was my first visit to Velvet Bakes on 28th December, a place that had been on my “places to visit” list for a long time. Since one of our friend from U.S had arrived, my friends and I—who are all moms to toddlers—decided to catch up here for brunch. A day prior, I had specifically messaged them on Instagram to check if a group could visit, as there were kids’ baking activities going on. I mentioned we’d be coming around 12 PM, and they confirmed it was fine. However, when we arrived the next day, we were told the kitchen opens only at 2 PM. This was extremely disappointing, especially since we had skipped breakfast assuming we’d be having brunch. Due to time constraints and having left our kids behind for just a few hours, we couldn’t move to another place. We ordered a brownie and a cupcake to manage for the time being, but unfortunately both were not fresh and quite dry. We still ate because one of my friends had her toddler with her, and the child was hungry. At 2 PM, when we asked to place our food order, we were told the kitchen would open at 2:10 PM. Even after placing our order, we had to repeatedly check at the reception, and the food finally arrived close to 2:40 PM. We ordered pastas, chicken wings, and drinks. There was no pizza available, which further limited choices. The pasta had no flavour at all—it tasted only of milk. We had to request oregano, salt, and pepper to make it edible. The chicken wings were decent. Several items we wanted to order were said to be unavailable. One of my friends had to leave due to the delay and barely ate anything. What was most upsetting is this: If the kitchen opens at 2 PM, why approve customers to come at 12 PM? Why open the café at all if only stale desserts are available? It felt extremely poorly managed. The café is undeniably beautiful, with a lovely ambience. But service and food matter just as much as aesthetics. Unfortunately, both were very disappointing. For a place that is so widely promoted and positioned as “elite” and “aesthetic,” the experience did not match the hype at all. We were paying customers, and we left feeling ignored, disappointed, and upset. Good ambience alone does not earn ratings—service and food quality do. A sincere suggestion: please focus on improving service and food consistency, not just promoting the café’s aesthetics. A good experience will speak louder than marketing. I was here last year eid, along with my kid,. There was a huge wooden carved door inside the cafe, for decorative purposes..that was absolutely heavy . Fortunately I was standing while my kid was playing there.. And that massive heavy door fell on my head.. Closely missing falling on my kid. Apart from that.. The food is average... The owner seems to have only focused on presentation and high prices ...while dishes don't offer anything special... Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 1
