A lot of visitors say that waiters offer perfectly cooked fried fish here. The success of this restaurant would be impossible without the energetic staff. Cool service is something guests appreciate here. If you visit Theeram The Family Meal Hut, certainly, you are to enjoy the surrounding homey atmosphere. : A Disappointing Meal Experience I had high expectations for this hotel, given its strong reputation and high ratings. After (an exclusive )ride from the railway station, I was eager to enjoy a good meal, but unfortunately, the experience did not meet my expectations. To start, the fish fry tawa was unavailable, which was a bit of a letdown. Instead, only deep-fried fish was on offer, which was not what I had in mind. Additionally, I had hoped for a fish curry with a moderate spice level, but that too was unavailable. Instead, I was given a curry that lacked the spice punch I was expecting. However, not all was bad. The sambar served with the meal was excellent – rich in flavor and made with coconut varutharachuth, which gave it a distinct taste. This reminded me of the sambar found in North Malabar, especially around Payannur, where the coconut-based preparation is a hallmark of the region's cuisine. The biggest disappointment came with the fish curry served alongside the meal. The curry was a complete flop, mainly due to the overuse of sweet cumin (പെരും ജീരകം). I’ve never encountered sweet cumin in a fish curry before, as it is more commonly used in beef curries prepared by Christian families in the Travancore region. The overwhelming flavor of the sweet cumin completely overshadowed the natural taste of the fish, which made it hard to enjoy. Overall, while the hotel has a strong reputation, today's meal left me dissatisfied. The lack of options, combined with the overly sweet curry, made the experience fall short of what I had hoped for.
