InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG®) is one of the world’s leading hotel companies. Located near the UNESCO world heritage site of Mahabalipuram, InterContinental Chennai Resort claims to be Mahabalipuram’s first luxury resort by the beach.
DINING DESTINATIONS
InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort offers three gourmet dining options which includes The Melting Pot: Market Cafe with three live kitchens that serves the best of European, South Asian and Peninsular Indian cuisine, a Chinese Specialty Restaurant, Tao Of Peng, and Off The Hook, the soon-to-be-launched beachside grill and seafood restaurant. The Gatsby Lounge offers guests classic cocktails and more, in an ambience inspired by the spirit of the roaring twenties and the jazz age.
AMBIANCE
The design and construction of this resort is consistent with the surrounding landscape and architectural style. As you enter the premises, you are welcomed by a breathtaking sight of a grand courtyard with a shallow pond, similar to a temple tank. This bio filtration pond is filled with lotuses and frangipani. The rooms look into the courtyard and the whole setting looks so serene.
Melting Pot is located, with a beautiful deck overlooking the courtyard. The interiors are bathed with sunlight and looks quite magical.
SUNDAY BRUNCH
Sundays are the best days to unwind with the best things in life being readily at your disposal and InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort knows a thing or two about how to optimize your day of relaxation.
The Sunday Brunch features all the makings of a perfect family day. We watched as the culinary drama unfolded at The Melting Pot where dedicated food islands offered the best food from around the world.
YOU NAME IT & THEY HAVE IT
Right from salads to Sushi, Asian style to Indian peninsular cuisine, live grills and an exotic dessert station, you name it and they have it.
The salad counter with more than 15 varieties of salad looked very colorful with an array of ingredients, condiments and dressing. The Morning Bakeries and the Egg station looked very inviting. With Individual islands dedicated for a particular cuisine along with live grills like the Asian Live station, Barbecue, Local food cart is something that I have never seen before at any restaurant. The Indian Live Station with marinated seafood looked very attractive.
One will feel like a kid in a candy shop trying to make up their mind at the Dessert counter. It’s so hard to choose from such an elaborate spread like that. I personally feel that this is the main attraction of the Sunday Brunch.
WHAT I LIKED
Here are some of my favorites from the extravagant Sunday Brunch.
The Herb & Watermelon salad with tofu was very light and fresh. The Braised lamb with beans & bell peppers salad was very exciting with a lot of flavors. The Iced tea was perfectly made to our taste and was very refreshing. The best drink to beat the heat.
I am a Sushi person but I enjoy them only at select restaurants and the Melting Pot just made it to my list. They had a good variety of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. From the Bao counter I chose the Chicken & Brown Onion Boa and loved it.
From the Local Food cart, I enjoyed the Vada Pav and samosa Pav. The creamy Alfredo Fettuchini pasta with mushrooms was my personal favourite. It was well seasoned with a generous topping of cheese and mushrooms.
The Meen Polichathu is a much sought after dish in the Kerala cuisine. The fish is smeared with Indian spices and wrapped in banana leaves. It is then shallow fried. The fish was done to perfection. It was simply great.
The Pardha Murgh Biryani was another great dish. Mildly spiced with great flavors. It’s a sure hit.
I have a couple of favorites from the dessert section. To start with, the dark and sinful Bitter Chocolate Pudding was simply divine. So was the humble Gajjar ka Halwa. The Banoffie Pie is to die for. The Raspberry Cremeux and Pineapple Upside Down were also great.
IN A NUTSHELL
If you have got a half a day to spare and want to unwind in the lap of luxury with some great food, then The Sunday Brunch at Melting Pot is the place to be.
