Lemon Pie - Rs.40/- Chicken Pie - Rs.35/- The Matana-Bakes & more, Umsohsun, Shillong $$ Bakers & Confectioneries 07.03.24 Today was both my Grandfather's death anniversary as well as my Nephew's 1st Birthday & it was placed upon me to place wreaths on his grave as well as collect the Birthday Cake. Truth be told, I'm a little nervous about the second errand as I'm pretty infamous for destroying beautiful cakes. Have a history of sorts. I got lost at first searching for the shop but then found it & with a sense of purpose, walked in this cutest of bakeries & asked for the cake. As it was being packed, my eyes were distracted by the Chicken Pie & Lemon Pie on the shelf & since I was a bit hungry, I requested a piece of each. They did look pretty good & usually I don't ever remember ordering such items since I usually get them when someone at home buys them. There are a whole variety of goodies to choose from. The cake which I later again managed to somewhat destroy a little was enjoyed by all. The pastry shell of the Chicken pie wasn't overly flaky & nicely held the filling inside. The filling was also decent. For the price, the size was appropriate. This is definitely in my list of Top 10 chicken pies. I'm sure it would be Top 5 if perhaps they were slightly warmed before serving. Next was the Lemon pie. This according to me was 'the pièce de résistance' of the two. I took a bite & it was tart, sweet, tangy, rich & very addictive. No crumbling base or runny filling. It had the perfect balance of everything. I don't like it when lemon pies are too tangy. This is definitely in my list of Top 5 Lemon pies. I'm definitely coming back to try out the other items.
