Last weekend myself and my US returned buddy decided to drop in to one of our favourite joints on Sarat Bose Road for some finger foods and quick drinks. While driving just before the Deshapriya Park crossing, a bright signboard at the opposite side of the road caught my eye, the signboard says "The Lansdowne Restobar", location is just opposite to Maharani/Maharaja and almost next to the Kahani-famous Monalisa Guest House. I was pleasantly surprised as this place once used to be known as Kurry Klub where I used to frequent for their heavenly chimney soup. I noticed a clear glass frontage and through that saw a man playing guitar inside. Curiously I made an U-turn and parked my car in front of it just to have a quick look while my friend remained seated in the car. A tall and handsome looking gentleman wearing a black suit greeted me and politely asked me to have a look inside (later came to know he was one of the owners). I was a bit apprehensive as this was not our final destination but agreed to have a look. A cosy and comfortable ambience, tastefully done interior, a large projection screen playing visuals and a mesmerising voice singing a popular Bollywood retro number hooked me instantly, we don't generally experience Live Music at this part of Kolkata excluding a few. I called my friend inside and decided to stay put for some time. Eventually we spent almost 3 hours there sipping drinks & listening to a wide variety of Hindi, Bengali and English numbers being belted out by a young chap with amazing voice. That was duly accompanied by mouth-watering fish and chicken kebabs, fried prawns and other tandoori items. The owners were also there and briefly explained us about their future plans, seems to be an interesting hangout place with a good concoction of cosy & elegant ambience, live music and lip smacking food over a few glasses of drinks. Extremely convenient location and easy to notice while driving on Sarat Bose Road. I would love to come back again, highly recommended for families looking for a casual dining joint serving alcohol in South Kolkata.
