On my way back from Kalpetta to Muttil, after collecting my car from the Indus Service Centre, I noticed a small crowd gathered in front of a modest eatery named Thanima. Curious, my friend Mr. Sudheer and I decided to stop and try the food, expecting a regular Kerala meal. However, upon entering, we discovered a small but neat and bustling restaurant that exclusively serves biryani—both chicken and beef. We placed our order: a chicken biryani for ₹120 and a beef biryani for ₹130. What followed was an unexpectedly delightful culinary experience. The rice was perfectly cooked—aromatic, fluffy, and flavourful. The meat was tender, well-marinated, and blended harmoniously with the rich masala, creating a taste that lingered long after the meal. The combination of spices was neither overwhelming nor bland; it struck a fine balance that made every bite satisfying. I can confidently say this is one of the best biryani spots on the Kalpetta–Bathery route. The food is not only delicious but also budget-friendly, and the service is warm and welcoming. If you're ever travelling this way, make sure to drop in at Thanima—a hidden gem for biryani lovers.
