I have been to Calcutta many times, but it has been almost 7 years since last. I didn't get a chance back then to visit Tangra but made it a point to do so this time. Tangra, as a place is quite different than what I imagined it to be; something like a little Chinatown full of food stalls and Chinese people engaging in conversations and commerce. Turned out to be a place of (now almost defunct) tanneries and some Chinese restaurants (without any people of Chinese origin around to be seen : and mostly operated by mainlanders). My girlfriend and I tried out a couple of places each day before we joined some friends at the newly opened Tangra Wok; the other places had decent food but felt like only a much better version of the Chinese food we get in Bombay/ Delhi etc. Tangra Wok felt like an answer to our search. Although it's a cloud kitchen (nestled in some interesting & quaint surroundings), upon calling they arranged a little table for us at the premises. We ate from little bowls rather than plates. Sometimes one gets fake full just looking at food in a plate, so this was quite cool. The delicious spread included; Beef meatballs soup, Chicken roasted with Chinese spices, Roast pork rice, Pork yam wonton, Chicken Fung Mee, Rice noodles, Stir fry pok-choi+ Chinese cabbage, Chicken & mushroom in oyster sauce etc. I don't remember the last time I wrote a recommendation for a food place! That satisfactory.
