One of the oldest places to relish a delicious Mangalorean meal! Very basic, only a handful of items served hot in classic banana leaf custom - boiled rice (thick red rice), dal, rasam, thick curd, lady’s finger fry & a yam coconut curry which is their specialty. Apart from rice, you also have the option to have chapatis..extremely thin & melts in your mouth just like a rumali roti. And, like most places serving thalis, here also you get an unlimited serving of all the items. For the tangy rasam lovers alert - expect a sweeter version of rasam..Udupi style. My taste buds accepted it happily! No desert included in the meal - the only disappointment about the entire food journey at Mangalore. Though you have the option to pick it separately from the menu. What’s worth a remembrance was the yam curry cooked in coconut gravy - mildly spiced, flavourful & cooked slow for the right texture, this was the winning shot!!

I visited Mangalore, my native place, yesterday. I wanted Mangalore sweets to send to my wife who is presently in US. Hence I dropped in at their Tajmahal sweet stall, by the side of the hotel. I requested to give me fresh holige, kadi, halwa and karakaddi, since I have to send them to US. BUT the items were so bad, old, fungus ridden and smelling bad ! Instead of fresh, they were horribly old and with fungus. If you value health, taste and Mangalore's heritage food aristocracy, please don't buy from their sweet stall. Old values of TajMahal sweets have been burried, now they value only money !! Service: 1

Terrible service and below average food. They don't serve sambar, vegetables or appalam with meals.When asked for some extra pickle, the waiter rudely answered saying they won't serve extra pickle. We approached the manager to make a complaint, he very irresponsibly brushed it off saying he cannot do anything about it and that this is how they serve meals. But nowhere in the hotel or menu is it mentioned that they don't serve sambar or vegetables with their meals. How are tourists supposed to know? Before leaving we saw the manager and waiter laughing at us and talking something in the local language. Overall, this is a pathetic option to pick to have food.
